We have now paused application submissions due to an abundance of applications for the initial available residences in the North Wing of Southern Crossing. Transitional Housing for a Brighter Future

Southern Crossing is a 27-unit transitional housing community created by LifeStyles of Maryland. It offers efficiency, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for low- and moderate-income families seeking safe, stable housing.

Program Duration

  • Maximum stay: 24 months
  • Must participate in case management to create a housing stability plan

Rent & Income Eligibility

  • Rent based on verified income
  • Must earn between 30% and 80% of area median income
  • Security deposit = 1 month’s rent* 

Who Can Apply?

  • Residents of Charles, Calvert, or St. Mary’s
  • Preference given to veterans and families with dependent children

Fully Furnished Units

  • Furniture, linens and kitchenware provided
  • Residents keep the furnishings when they move out

The HUD-subsidized units that are designated for homeless households have already been selected based upon the Southern Maryland Local Homeless Coalition’s coordinated entry process. If you are homeless in Southern Maryland and are currently not part of Coordinated Entry or if you are in need of other homeless services, please contact LifeStyles directly at: 301-609-9900. Regardless of your housing status, persons would have to meet the minimum income requirements for the non-subsidized units.

Transitional Housing for a Brighter Future

LifeStyles of Maryland is working to renovate the old White House Motel on US-301 to create Southern Crossing, a one-of-a-kind facility providing short-term housing, along with career and life skills training, to homeless individuals and families in Southern Maryland. It’s an ambitious project, and it can’t happen without you.

Southern Crossing will house up to 77 residents for up to 18 months. Residence options will feature 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and efficiency units.
