Along the way, many of these individuals and families gained access to a network of resources dedicated to helping them discover support, stability and growth that will allow them to move past homelessness and into a more secure lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-45uii\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">The COVID-19 pandemic and the necessities of social distancing meant new challenges in housing those in need from October through March. At local churches, capacity was limited to allow for sufficient spacing. To make up for it, LifeStyles arranged for families to be housed in a local motel, where wi-fi was available for children to use for their online school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-18lno\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Despite the pandemic, the Safe Nights season was an extraordinary success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-414ie\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">In all, 59 households and 112 people were sheltered. It adds up to a total of 4,447 nights spent indoors, in a warm bed, rather than on the streets amid the often harsh winter conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-e495n\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Individuals were given COVID-19 tests prior to being admitted into Safe Nights shelter. LifeStyles and the Charles County Department of Social Services also worked with these individuals and families to assess their situations and connect them with additional assistance and more permanent housing options where ever possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-4fq3o\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">The results were encouraging.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-ul\">\n<li id=\"viewer-4k335\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr public-DraftStyleDefault-reset _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">16 households moved into housing with friends or family<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-1unkb\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">10 individuals moved to the Fuller House (for men) or Martha&#8217;s House (for women and children)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-d7cd7\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">9 households moved to the Angel&#8217;s Watch shelter<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-72o4v\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">7 households transitioned into permanent housing<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-ak8ic\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">5 households remain in additional shelter provided by LifeStyles<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-7e33v\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">2 households are now renting their rooms from the motel<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-et6i6\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem    public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0    public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk\">1 household went to a crisis house<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"viewer-fnikk\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _25MYV _1Fao9 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Though Safe Nights has ended until the fall, continue to work with our community partners to find shelter for those who are homeless. Many households are also now also facing the threat of eviction due to financial hardships related to the pandemic. Supportive funds may be available to help. It was her suggestion that led to Amazon making a $20,000 gift to LifeStyles to support our mission to offer Help, Hope and Transformation to those in need.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p id=\"viewer-908qh\">Smith has gotten to know LifeStyles through our collaborations with New Life Church in La Plata. She has even volunteered with us along with fellow members of her church. So LifeStyles was the first organization that came to her mind when her Amazon colleagues began discussing how to give back to Charles County.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p id=\"viewer-30m83\">\u201cThe company was asking what we were going to do for our Neighborgood project,\u201d she said. \u201cI was thinking that if I had the capability to help, I would like to help LifeStyles.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p id=\"viewer-6vnd6\">She passed along information about our organization to her supervisor, Station Manager Darrell Lewis, who then reached out to learn more.
