Every Thursday, like clockwork, a special kind of energy arrives at the LifeStyles Distribution Center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not loud or flashy \u2014 but it\u2019s steady, reliable and filled with purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n

We call them the Thursday Crew.<\/span><\/p>\n

For more than five years, this incredible group of women has been a vital part of the LifeStyles family. Linda Richardson, Iris Marshall, Juanita Conley, Angela Holt and Olga Wright \u2014 along with their dear friend Barbara Harrison, who has passed away but is with them in spirit \u2014 have shown up week after week, ready to serve their community with heart and humility.<\/span><\/p>\n

They started at our La Plata office, lending their hands to the food pantry and Rosemary\u2019s Closet. When we opened the Distribution Center in Waldorf, they didn\u2019t hesitate \u2014 they followed the need and continued their service there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wherever there\u2019s work to be done, the Thursday Crew shows up.<\/span><\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not just at the Distribution Center. They give their heart, soul, time and energy wherever they\u2019re needed most. So they\u2019ve also supported major LifeStyles events like our Community Resource Days, backpack drives, clothing giveaways and holiday basket distributions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These women have become part of the rhythm of our outreach. They\u2019re a dependable, compassionate force that keeps things moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unity is at the heart of their story.<\/span><\/p>\n

Volunteering together has given them more than a sense of purpose. It\u2019s built a bond. Their teamwork is seamless, their friendship evident in every task they take on together. They laugh, they hustle, they lift each other up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most importantly, they lift up the people we serve.<\/span><\/p>\n

In honoring the Thursday Crew, we\u2019re reminded that giving back doesn\u2019t have to be a solo act. When you serve as a team, you multiply your impact. You create something deeply meaningful. A shared experience. A shared legacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

To Linda, Iris, Juanita, Angela and Olga: thank you for your years of faithful service. And of course, to Barbara \u2014 whose spirit continues to shine through her friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual Point-in-Time Homeless Survey began across Southern Maryland on Wednesday, part of a large, nationwide effort that attempts to quantify the numbers of sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its Continuum of Care (CoC) application for homelessness funding, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that jurisdictions across the nation conduct a statistically reliable and unduplicated count of the homeless for one overnight period during the last 10 days of January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LifeStyles of Maryland is helping lead the effort in Southern Maryland. Roughly 50 volunteers and staff members will fan out across the region to conduct the survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the goal is to provide a snapshot of the homeless in our community, LifeStyles takes it a step further by providing access to resources and distributing items to help them sustain the weather as well as providing information and encouraging individuals to access shelter and housing services. LifeStyles will also work with local departments of social services to provide shelter for those who seek it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results of the survey are used to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
