And some \u2014 like Linda Carney \u2014 give it everything they\u2019ve got.<\/span><\/p>\n

For more than 14 years, Linda has been a dedicated volunteer with LifeStyles, making an incredible impact with our IRS-certified <\/span>Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)<\/span><\/a> program. If you\u2019ve ever had your taxes prepared through LifeStyles, there\u2019s a good chance Linda had a hand in making it happen. And if she did, you were in excellent hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"From scheduling appointments to coordinating sites across Southern Maryland \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

From training new volunteers and interns to preparing thousands of tax returns herself \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Linda is woven into every part of the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

And she\u2019s not just checking boxes.<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019s researching. She\u2019s advocating. She\u2019s fighting for every dollar that rightfully belongs to the people we serve. Because to Linda, it\u2019s not just paperwork\u2014it\u2019s a lifeline. A way to bring dignity and peace of mind to someone who needs it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our tax clients know it. That\u2019s why they ask for her by name. Year after year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, Linda serves as the Assistant Site Coordinator for our tax program \u2014 a role that perfectly suits her diligence, expertise and heart for service. But her commitment doesn\u2019t stop when tax season ends.<\/span><\/p>\n

Linda is here all year long.<\/span><\/p>\n

Helping with holiday baskets and toy drives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Supporting homeless outreach efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pitching in at the distribution center whenever she\u2019s needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

She doesn\u2019t ask for praise. She simply shows up \u2014 again and again \u2014 with the same spirit and drive that makes her an irreplaceable part of the LifeStyles family.<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual Point-in-Time Homeless Survey began across Southern Maryland on Wednesday, part of a large, nationwide effort that attempts to quantify the numbers of sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its Continuum of Care (CoC) application for homelessness funding, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that jurisdictions across the nation conduct a statistically reliable and unduplicated count of the homeless for one overnight period during the last 10 days of January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LifeStyles of Maryland is helping lead the effort in Southern Maryland. Roughly 50 volunteers and staff members will fan out across the region to conduct the survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the goal is to provide a snapshot of the homeless in our community, LifeStyles takes it a step further by providing access to resources and distributing items to help them sustain the weather as well as providing information and encouraging individuals to access shelter and housing services. LifeStyles will also work with local departments of social services to provide shelter for those who seek it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results of the survey are used to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
