LifeStyles of Maryland is proud to announce that we\u2019ve been recognized with a Smiles in Action Award from the PepsiCo Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PepsiCo, Inc., one of the world’s leading food and beverage companies.<\/p>\n
The program is a part of the company\u2019s efforts to support local communities by providing resources for valuable programs that benefit individuals and families in need. The award includes a grant that LifeStyles will use to support our Homeless Services efforts throughout Southern Maryland.<\/p>\n

LifeStyles is one of 22 charities and organizations across the country selected as a Smiles in Action Award winner.\u00a0Through strategic partnerships, such as the Smiles in Action Award, the PepsiCo Foundation seeks to tackle the long-term challenges and do the most good for the most people.<\/p>\n

When the devastating impact of COVD-19 on communities around the world became clear, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation provided vital support in response to the unprecedented crisis. The grant announced through Smiles in Action provide funding for local organizations that are able to have an immediate, direct impact on their communities.<\/p>\n

The annual Point-in-Time Homeless Survey began across Southern Maryland on Wednesday, part of a large, nationwide effort that attempts to quantify the numbers of sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of its Continuum of Care (CoC) application for homelessness funding, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that jurisdictions across the nation conduct a statistically reliable and unduplicated count of the homeless for one overnight period during the last 10 days of January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LifeStyles of Maryland is helping lead the effort in Southern Maryland. Roughly 50 volunteers and staff members will fan out across the region to conduct the survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the goal is to provide a snapshot of the homeless in our community, LifeStyles takes it a step further by providing access to resources and distributing items to help them sustain the weather as well as providing information and encouraging individuals to access shelter and housing services. LifeStyles will also work with local departments of social services to provide shelter for those who seek it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
